ABOUT FUTSAL

Futsal is played between two teams of five players, one of whom is the goalkeeper. In addition each team may have a number of seven substitutes. Unlike some other forms of indoor football, the field is delimited by lines, and not nets or boards that players can use to redirect the ball. Futsal as it is called in many countries is played with a #3 or #4 ball, which is slightly heavier and smaller than the #5 ball used in soccer.

The main objective of FUTSAL is to foster a learning environment wherein players can develop their skills and knowledge of the sport of soccer. The greatest measure of success comes when a child grows the personal desire to continue playing the game and improving on their skills as soccer players. Though most children have a natural tendency to enjoy playing games, a true appreciation and aptitude for the sport of soccer must be nurtured through active participation and proper instruction of the sport.

FUTSAL achieves these goals by allowing:

  • Players to increase their number of touches on a soccer ball.
  • Provides a higher number of goal scoring chances.
  • Encourages players to retain possession of the ball as a productive, fun and rewarding part of the game (i.e. defending).
  • Maximizes active participation and minimizes inactivity and boredom.
  • Provides a well organized playing environment within improvised fields.
  • Reflects the philosophy of player development expressed in state and national coaching schools.
  • Eliminates complicated rules such as off-sides that may hinder youngsters from "playing".
  • Reflects the appropriate roll of the coach as a Facilitator.
  • Makes the game more "beginner coach" friendly because of its simplicity, thus making it easier to recruit more volunteer "coaches".
  • Futsal allows the game to be the Teacher!
Consequently, FUTSAL allows for more excitment as the player is in contact with the toy, the soccer ball, more often creating more scoring opportunities for all postitions inside the soccer pitch. It is also worth mentioning that because of the increase in scoring opportunities, the Goalie has enough action to develop his/her skills as he/she sees the net threatened at all times, forcing him/her to be alert and ready.
